Visa FAQ

Do I need a visa to visit New Zealand?

Visa requirements depend on your passport, where you are travelling from and your personal circumstances. Mainland Chinese passport holders generally need to apply for a Visitor Visa before travelling. Travellers eligible for visa-waiver entry generally still need to obtain an NZeTA before departure. Check the Immigration New Zealand website for the requirements that apply to you.

Can Star Trip help with my visa application?

For trips booked with us, Star Trip can provide supporting travel documents, such as itinerary confirmations and accommodation details. Travellers are responsible for submitting their own visa applications. All visa decisions are made by Immigration New Zealand.

What documents do I need to apply for a New Zealand Visitor Visa?

You may need a valid passport, a passport-style photo that meets the requirements, a travel itinerary, accommodation and transport details, evidence of sufficient funds, and documents supporting the purpose of your visit and your intention to leave New Zealand. Immigration New Zealand may request additional documents depending on your circumstances.

Do Chinese-language documents need to be translated?

Yes. For Visitor Visa applications, documents that are not in English should be submitted with complete English translations, along with scans of the original documents and the translator’s details. Please check Immigration New Zealand’s latest translation requirements before applying.

How far in advance should I apply?

Apply as early as possible once you have decided on your travel plans. Be cautious about purchasing non-refundable flights or travel products before your visa is approved. Processing times vary depending on application volumes, whether your documents are complete and your personal circumstances. Check the latest processing times published by Immigration New Zealand before submitting your application.

How long does my passport need to be valid?

For most visitors, passports generally need to be valid for at least three months after the planned departure date from New Zealand. Your passport should also be in good condition and must not have been reported lost, cancelled or declared invalid.

Does a visa guarantee entry to New Zealand?

No. A visa or NZeTA does not automatically grant entry permission. On arrival, you will still need to meet border entry requirements and may be asked to show evidence of return or onward travel, accommodation arrangements and sufficient funds for your stay.

Do I need to complete any forms before arriving?

Travellers generally need to complete the New Zealand Traveller Declaration before entering New Zealand. You must accurately declare any food, medicines, plant and animal products, and other restricted items you are carrying.
